Employee Web Presence via the U-drive

Please read the following information carefully.

Web space is provided via the U-Drive for CPCC employees to create personal homepages using college web resources. By using this service, you agree to comply with the College Acceptable Use Guidelines.

In order to use your web space, you must have a valid College Network account. If you do not yet have a network account, more information is available at http://www.cpcc.edu/itservices/newemployee.

The following instructions should be followed in order to publish to your web space.

  • Connect to your U-Drive. The ‘My Documents’ folder on your desktop is mapped to your U-Drive while you are logged into a College workstation with your network account. You can also reach your U-Drive remotely.
  • Find your 'www' folder. This is where you should place all your public web content.
  • Save your content in the ‘www’ folder. Try a simple html page called 'index.htm' to start with.
  • The following url format is used to access the index page created above: http://people.cpcc.edu/~ecm7654e/index.htm.
  • The previous example assumes your Network Account ID is 'ecm7654e'. The basic format is 'people.cpcc.edu/~' + 'Your Network ID'.
  • Don't forget the '~' before your username!

Any folders that you place within your 'www' folder will be appended to the url when accessed via http.

More training will be available from professional development during the month of April 2004.

Important: If you don't have an index.html or and index.htm file, your webspace will simply list the files in your 'www' folder.

**DO NOT** place anything in this folder that you do not want to share with the world! Anything in your 'www' folder will be visible to anyone that happens to come across your page on the internet; you have been warned.
